Frequently Asked Questions

Our Techniques:
1-How is it possible to value websites?
The idea sound simple, but it really is not. First, we had to figure out a way of gathering information about websites. That was the easy part. Second, we had to store everything we learned about websites in an immense database (that is continuously growing). Finally, we had to use all our knowledge to find a practical algorithm that would use the data and generate a good estimate that would work with most websites.

2-How accurate are the estimates?
It is not accurate at all! They are estimates. Use the tool to compare websites or to look at other important data provided. For accurate estimates, we would need undisclosed information about the websites.

3-What are the data used?
That is our little secret. Good try! However, if you look at a result page, we show many sources. That will give you a good idea.

4-What makes this website a better estimator than competitors?
We probably have a lot more data in our database. However, that in itself does not mean it is a better tool. Compared to our competitor, we use historical data in our algorithm. We think it is necessary to use historical data when trying to estimate a value of a website. Furthermore, we are not shy of our estimate! We will show our competitors estimate next to ours.

Our Database:
1-How many website is in the database?
There are additions every day, and no, we do not have all the websites (we will never have). We add new websites in our database every time there is a search on a website that we do not have yet. As of April 13th 2010, we have close to 700,000 websites in our database.

2-How big is the database?
As of April 13th 2010, our database has around 50 tables. The live database takes about 5 GB of disk space. We also have a bunch of archives with access logs. Remember, the database is a growing thing.

3-How long is the history of the database?
The database was started Thu, 15 Nov 2007 03:21:19 GMT.

Functionality and Accounts:
1-Why should you create an account?
There are good reasons to create an account. Some of them are: you will not be limited to top 20; you will be able to comment on websites; you will be able to track website worth; you will be able to "thumbs-up or thumbs-down" an estimate; you will be able to use all of our services.

2-How can you remove your website from our listing?
Follow these instructions.

3-What are the Editor's Picks?
It is one way for website owners to get website recognition and to get new visits to their website. It is a bit like advertising, but you get us (the Editor), to approve/comment on your website. For more information, check the "Editor's Picks" info page.
